Most of us are too busy to know.
Not a tracker. Not a fixer.
A quiet place where what is already true in you
can rise to the surface.
Through art and mindfulness, the Present Project creates the conditions for your own understanding to surface, in its own time, in its own way.
No performance. No fixing. Just honest presence.
From noticing, to understanding, to choosing, to owning, one stage at a time.
Each stage builds naturally on the last, until the practice is simply who you are.
Notice what is here, without judgment. The first and most important step — simply to see.
Make meaning from what you have noticed. Patterns emerge. Clarity begins to form.
Find what works for you specifically. Your own practice, consciously chosen.
The practice becomes life. A new kind of autopilot — this time, truly yours.
This program wasn't designed. It was discovered.
Each stage has nine sessions. Not because nine is magic — but because the research tells us that real change needs repetition, not intensity. You return, again and again, until something shifts without effort.
The popular idea that habits form in 21 days is a myth — one that originated from a plastic surgeon observing patients adjust to new appearances, not from any study of behaviour change. The actual research tells a different story.
Phillippa Lally's study at University College London found that habit formation takes anywhere from 18 to 254 days, with an average of 66. What matters is not the number of days but the quality of repetition — returning to the same practice with genuine attention, across enough time for new neural pathways to consolidate.
Nine sessions per stage gives you enough repetition for something to settle, without so many sessions that it becomes a task. It is a rhythm, not a rule.
And because you know yourself best — some people feel ready to move forward before nine sessions. Others need more time and want to stay longer. Nine is a suggestion, not a finish line. The app will follow your lead either way.
36 sessions in total. One investment. No renewal required.
Researchers have found that people who focus well aren't people who never get distracted. They're people who return faster.
A pre-performance ritual, a tennis player's bounce before serving, a basketball player's free throw routine, lasts seconds. It anchors attention at the start. Then the performer is on their own.
Art practice is different. It is an anchor that lasts the entire duration.
The physical sequence of picking up a brush, touching water, watching colour move keeps returning attention continuously. And because the medium is unpredictable, you cannot drift for long before the material itself calls you back.
Not one anchor. An unbroken chain of micro-returns.
Mihaly Csikszentmihályi, who developed flow theory by studying artists, found that unpredictable creative materials produce sustained, effortless attention, the kind that cannot be forced or willed into existence. Artists got so absorbed in their work they would forget to eat, sleep, rest. Not because they were disciplined. Because the material kept asking them to return.
This is why The Present Project uses art and imagination as its primary vehicles, not because they are relaxing, but because unpredictable materials and inner imagery create the conditions for presence again and again, without willpower or effort.
The medium does the work.
And what begins as noticing becomes understanding. Understanding becomes tools you choose for yourself. Tools, practised consistently, become ownership — a way of being that belongs entirely to you.
This is A.U.T.O. Not a metaphor. What actually happens when someone moves through this program. They stop needing to be reminded. They return to themselves — not because someone told them to, but because they learned how.
No instructions for how to feel. No right way to do it. No one checking your answers. Just you, the materials, and whatever arrives. Most wellness programs tell you what to notice. This one just creates the space.
We don't hand you answers. We create the conditions for your own understanding to surface, in its own time.
Our deepest hope is that one day you no longer need us. The practice is designed to make itself unnecessary.
That is the whole point.
Your practice lives only on your device.
